Privacy Policy
Last updated: January 2026
Olof Petterson (“I,” “me,” or “my”) operates the Clearstep mobile application (the “App”). This Privacy Policy explains how I handle information when you use the App.
The short version: I don’t collect your data. Your reflections stay on your device and in your personal iCloud account.
Information I Collect
I do not collect any personal information.
Clearstep is designed with privacy at its core. The App does not:
- Require an account or registration
- Collect your name, email, or contact information
- Track your location
- Access your contacts, photos, or other device data
- Use cookies or similar tracking technologies
- Employ third-party analytics or tracking services
Information Stored on Your Device and iCloud
Your reflections and any content you create within the App are stored on your device and synced to your personal iCloud account (if iCloud is enabled on your device). This data:
- Is stored locally on your device
- Syncs to your personal iCloud account for backup and multi-device access
- Is protected by Apple’s iCloud encryption
- Is never transmitted to my servers
- Is not accessible to me in any way
I have no servers that store your data. Your reflections exist only on your device and in your personal iCloud account, which is controlled entirely by you through your Apple ID.
iCloud Sync
Clearstep uses Apple’s CloudKit to sync your reflections across your Apple devices. This means:
- Your reflections are backed up to your iCloud account
- You can access your reflections on multiple devices signed into the same Apple ID
- Sync happens automatically when you’re connected to the internet
- I cannot access, read, or retrieve your synced data
- You can disable iCloud sync for Clearstep in your device’s Settings > Apple ID > iCloud
If you disable iCloud sync, your reflections will remain on your device only and will not be backed up to iCloud.
Third-Party Services
Clearstep does not integrate with third-party analytics, advertising networks, or data brokers. I do not share, sell, rent, or trade any information with third parties.
The only external service used is Apple’s iCloud (CloudKit) for sync, which is governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy.
App Store
When you download Clearstep from the Apple App Store, Apple may collect certain information as described in Apple’s Privacy Policy. This is outside my control and not governed by this Privacy Policy.
In-App Purchases
Clearstep offers in-app purchases and subscriptions. These transactions are processed entirely by Apple. I do not receive or store your payment information. Please refer to Apple’s terms for details on how Apple handles payment data.
Children’s Privacy
Clearstep is not directed at children under 13. I do not knowingly collect information from children. Since I collect no data from any users, this applies equally to all age groups.
Your Rights and Data Deletion
Since your data is stored only on your device and your iCloud account:
- Access your data: Open the App to view your reflections at any time.
- Delete your data: You can delete individual reflections within the App, clear all data in Settings, or delete all data by uninstalling the App from your device.
- No request needed: Because I don’t have your data, you don’t need to contact me to delete it.
Uninstalling Clearstep from your device will permanently remove all local App data. To also remove data from iCloud, disable iCloud sync before uninstalling or delete the data from iCloud settings.
Data Security
Your reflections are stored using SwiftData, protected by iOS security features including device encryption (when enabled) and app sandboxing. iCloud data is protected by Apple’s encryption.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
I may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. I will notify you of any significant changes by updating the “Last updated” date at the top of this page.
